Frequently asked questions
If your question is not listed here, reach out at info@privomail.io.
How does the service work?
PrivoMail uses Postfix virtual aliases. An alias address is registered in our database, and Postfix queries that database every time an email arrives. If the alias is enabled and the forwarding address is verified, the message is relayed to your real inbox immediately, in memory, without being written to disk.
Why should I trust this service?
We do not ask you to trust us blindly. We recommend signing up with an email address that does not include your real name or other identifying information. Forwarded emails are not inspected, stored, or modified.
We would also advise against using PrivoMail for mission-critical or highly confidential communication. For that, you need infrastructure you control entirely.
If I delete an alias, can I get it back?
Deleted aliases cannot be recovered through the account page. If you need to restore a recently deleted alias, contact support at info@privomail.io and we can re-add it in an unverified state. You will receive a verification email to reactivate it.
I am receiving spam on one of my aliases. What can I do?
Disable the alias from your account page. A disabled alias stops forwarding mail immediately. You can re-enable it at any time, or delete it permanently if you no longer need it.
What happens if I downgrade my plan?
If your active alias count exceeds the new plan's limit, aliases over the limit are automatically disabled (not deleted). You can choose which ones to re-enable by deleting others, or upgrade again to restore forwarding.
I have a suggestion. How can I contact you?
Suggestions are always welcome. Please send them to info@privomail.io.
